There was the old frequensator tailpiece, and there have been others, which build in progressively greater tension from treble to bass - and those are always presented with a rationale to that effect. I've never heard an argument for the desirability of that pattern of tensions. Again, at least theoretically, the arrangement should yield the most "snap" on the inner two strings, a little less on the next pair, and the least on the outside. The D & G will have more tension than on a straight stop tailpiece, the A & B a little less (but still more) tension, and the two Es about the same (as in a straight termination). I suspect that the idea is to make it difficult to install a Bigsby. 6Īre they the same bolt pattern as other stop tailpieces? When form fails to follow function, the buying public must suffer the aesthetic concepts of people who have no expertise in either form or functionality. Yeah, it really does look like some zero-brand guitar' company's bad idea of looking "different" in order to catch attention. Maybe it’s just that they are “different” but to me it cheapens the guitar. Unless there is some tonal, resonant or other advantage, they just look like a J.C.

I'm just being a ninny here - this guitar is in great shape.Has anyone replaced one of those V (for "verdammt," as far as I'm concerned) tailpieces with a Bigsby? If so, please tell me about it. If you're looking at this guitar for stage work it wouldn't be the worst idea to wire up a new control plate with a toggle switch. Sometimes it takes more than one shot to turn a pup on or off. Rocker switches work reliably enough, but they can be a little annoying. This is not the original bridge to this guitar, but it is Teisco unit and is totally appropriate. Remember, this is plywood, so no worries about anything structural.

One small stress crack at the tailpiece/strap button, but it looks to be finish only. Also a few shallow dents where it looks like someone was careless moving a bridge around. Finish is very clean, although it has some wide weather checking. Plays great and gets super indie tone from the pups. The guitar being played by the Japanese band the 5,6,7,8s in Kill Bill vol. Very clean mid-60s Teisco EP-7 in uber-rare greenburst.
